EIS
- "Without Trees, Where Would We Be?":
Hello all
A packed newsletter today - so I'll get straight on.
(Whilst I'm writing this newsletter the EIS office roof is leaking.
I've come to the rather rapid conclusion that wet cardboard is *not*
a good smell)
Where was I? Oh yes...
¨
"Buried Treasure II" And "EIS Live"
For those of you with long memories, back in the late 90's the EIS
released two CDs exclusively for the fan club. "Buried Treasure"
(released 1997) featured various unreleased tracks and demos. The
second CD "An Evening With Erasure" (released 1998) featured live
tracks from the EIS Manchester gig.
As it's the 8th and 9th anniversaries of these releases, I figured
that was the perfect excuse to do another two limited edition CDs!
- "Buried Treasure II" -
This will feature a variety of demos and unreleased material from
various Erasure albums; including several tracks from the original
"Loveboat" studio sessions plus Andy Bell's audition recordings from
21 years ago.
- "EIS Live" -
This will featured unreleased live tracks from the Manchester "An
Evening With Erasure" gig and a selection of songs from the
Leicester EIS'04 convention.
Further information, pricing, release date etc for these limited
edition EIS CDs will be announced as soon as they are confirmed.

Although no exact release date had been announced by Mute for the

Change The EIS E-mail Newsletters?
I've been debating whether or not to send out HTML versions of the
EIS E mail Newsletters *as well* as these plain text versions.
An HTML formatted newsletter would allow for better formatted links,
the inclusion of small images, and generally a more interesting
layout. This would be in addition to the plain text e-mail
newsletters that are currently sent out - you would decide which
version you would like to receive.
So I need to see if there is sufficient demand for HTML formatted
newsletters - so vote via the Erasure Forum here:

Lucy McKenzie Exhibition
Talbot Rice
Gallery presents "Ten Years
Of Robotic Mayhem (Including Sublet)",
the first major Scottish solo exhibition by Lucy McKenzie.
Lucy McKenzie is the artist who made the artwork for the latest
Erasure releases: EP "Boy" and "Union Street" album.
Described as a
‘cultural worker’, McKenzie’s practice encompasses wide ranging
activities such as painting, drawing, performance, music and public
art. The work on show at Talbot Rice will reveal the different
facets of her artistic production.
The upper gallery
is be devoted to artworks originally produced as commissions;
illustrations such as those for the Edinburgh periodical The One
O’clock Gun, the album artwork for pop group Erasure, and various
releases McKenzie has facilitated through her record label
Decemberism.

Here is the quote
from
"The Herald" article about the exhibition:
"First is the
artwork – a loaded term in this context – for Union Street, the
latest album by pop group Erasure. Framed on the wall are pencil
sketches of the two band members, song titles drawn as if to
prefigure their later inscription on pencil cases, and the painting
for the CD cover."
Lucy McKenzie:
"Ten Years Of Robotic Mayhem (Including Sublet)" is at the Talbot
Rice Gallery, Edinburgh, from 21st October until 9th December.
The exhibition
will tour to:

EIS
- "Paul Hickey's Autobiography":
Hello
You may recall from various interviews with Andy Bell in recent
years that his partner and manager Paul Hickey has written an
autobiography, "Happiness Is The Best Facelift".
The
book gives a powerful insight into how his and Andy's lives together
changed with the phenomenal success of Erasure, and paints a vivid
picture of what it was like for Paul to suffer a stroke and to be
struck down in the prime of life. One learns from the book that it
is never too late to start doing the right thing, and that it is
always worth putting up a fight, even when all the cards seem to be
stacked against you...
Paul has set up a presence on myspace.com, where one can read a
detailed synopsis of his book plus a breakdown of the first two
chapters in his blog.
Now this is where your help would be appreciated. Basically we need
to demonstrate with hard figures the demand for the book to
potential publishers. So it would be of a great assistance if you
could leave feedback / comments via Paul's myspace blog of what you
think about what you have read and if it is a publication that would
interest you.
Paul's Myspace site:
http://www.myspace.com/minotaurmusic
Friend Request:
http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction...
One will be required to request becoming a friend in order to read
the blog (all requests will be approved), again this is in order to
demonstrate (to a certain extent) the interest. Because of this,
please do not republish the synopsis on other websites / blogs /
forums etc.
Thank you

Gareth's Diary - Next Part
Days 4 to 6 of Gareth's diary have
been added:
- Andy has named all the songs,
whereas Vince and Gareth are still using the original numbers;
- On Monday, 9th October was the
first "proper" day in the studio. They spent all day working on one
song (P7). Andy did a lot of lyric writing - Gareth think the lyrics
are almost complete for this song;
- On 10th October the session
started at midday and they dived into another song. They bought a
cheap printer and Andy started printing out lyrics. They also did
their first vocal session, Andy in fine voice.
