Britney Spears Will Not Perform On "True Colors"

Britney Spears will not perform with Cyndi Lauper this weekend. The singer, who was due to appear at Los Angeles' Greek Theater on Saturday (30.06.07), failed to accept the offer to join the "True Colors" tour. A representative for the tour said: "She was invited to appear on the first date in Las Vegas but we never heard from her."

Britney reportedly decided not to appear because her recent comeback performances have been dogged by lip-synching rumours and she was said to be terrified of singing live. A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Britney said she would only dance or lip-sync - and to be on stage with Cyndi, you have to actually perform. It's not happening now."

Earlier this week, Britney's choreographer Misha Gabriel revealed the 25-year-old was planning to join Lauper, Debbie Harry, Erasure, The Dresden Dolls and The Misshapes on stage this weekend. Rosie O'Donnell, who is set to present the show, admitted she was excited about meeting Britney backstage before the performance. Rosie told in a video message on her blog: "Brit, honey, you and me - we're gonna share, like, a backstage moment, 'cause I love you, kid!"

Britney Spears Joining "True Colors" Tour

Britney Spears is set to surprise fans with a one-off appearance on Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" tour when it arrives in Los Angeles on Saturday (30 June). The singer will perform one song at the Greek Theatre gig, which will also feature Lauper, Erasure, Debbie Harry, The Dresden Dolls and The Misshapes with Jeffree Star. Spears will take the stage with two female backing dancers, her choreographer Misha Gabriel tells website People.com.

As reported by another EIS member, MikeyC, there is a chance for "Sunday Girl" video to be made. Here is what he posted on EIS Forum:

"Today at the signing in VIRGIN in NYC, I asked V & A if there will be a video for "Sunday Girl"! They kinda looked at each other and Vince said "well that's a good question" and then I offered, "perhaps it'll be out for the American release?" and then Vince said "well we're working on something right now actually..."

Using the Apple software GarageBand (part of Apple's iLife software suite for the Mac), you can download instrument & vocal loops for the Erasure song "When A Lover Leaves You" (taken from their new album 'Light At The End Of The World') and use this to create your own remix.

The winning remix (chosen by the band) will be available as part of Erasure's third single release later this year.

EIS member lurpak33 had the chance on Sunday to meet Daniel Miller, head of Mute Records in London's Heathrow. In a quick chat Daniel revealed that there will definitely be a 3rd single from "Light At The End Of The World". It will possibly be a double A-side single because Erasure want "Sucker For Love" while Daniel prefer "Storm In A Teacup" (thanks to lurpak33 for the info).

There were two Erasure specifc merchandise items that were being sold on the show, and they were both t-shirts. Black with "Light At The End Of The World" album art on front, and "True Colors Tour" date / venue /city info on back and black with "Erasure" logo from new album in white, with glittery silver outline and nothing on the back (thanks to VSDAMIANUS for the info).

A new album titled "True Colors" is due for release on the 12th June 2007 by Silver Label, which includes songs from artists who are performing on the "True Colors" tour.

A digital download release of the "True Colors" album is currently being worked on, and the album will be on sale at the "True Colors" venues. However as the CD has only just gone into production they won't be on sale until the Atlantic City show at the very earliest.

The "True Colors" tour starts today in Las Vegas - have fun everyone who is going! Would love to publish on the website any pictures that you take - see the bottom of this newsletter for details.

"True Colors" Tour Kicks Off Today!

For the first time ever, music legends and today's hottest artists take the stage for a historical musical event - Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, Debbie Harry, The Dresen Dolls, The Gossip and The Misshapes with host Margaret Cho join in celebration of the inaugural "True Colors" concert tour in support of the Human Rights Campaign.

Andy Bell To Record Second Solo Album?

In a brand new interview Andy Bell has stated that he wants to record another solo album:

"I feel one coming up actually. I think it is time for another one. I'd love to do something really dark, industrial or something like that."

Rosie Added To More Dates

Rosie O'Donnell will be a special guest on the True Colors Tour for 3 additional dates including Las Vegas, Chicago, and Washington D.C. in addition to dates already scheduled in New York, Dallas and Houston.

"It’s a dream come true to be on the road with Cyndi Lauper,” said O'Donnell. “I'm almost a rock star!"

"I am thrilled that Rosie is able to do more shows on the tour. We have always wanted to tour together,” Lauper agreed. “It's going to be a blast."

Sirius Radio - Erasure In-Studio Performance

A special Erasure mini-concert in support of their new album "Light at the End of the World" will be broadcast on "OutQ In The Morning" with Larry Flick Friday, June 1st at 9am on the US Sirius Radio channel "OutQ" (channel 109).

If you miss the first broadcast then it will be repeated during "Feel The Spin" at the weekend.

Note: The audio originates from the recording studio rather than the broadcasts themselves, so the audio quality of the DJ's conducting the interviews can be variable.

iTunes Plus / DRM Free Digital Downloads

This news had been reported on many online news services, however its significance means it's worth reporting here.

All Erasure music (as well as all other Mute/EMI artists) sold via iTunes is now (optionally) available without DRM restrictions. DRM stands for "Digital Rights Management" and is what locks music files purchased from iTunes (and other digital music stores) to a particular playback device.

As Erasure music from iTunes can now be purchased "DRM free" this means that the songs can now be played back via a large range of music players (e.g. iPod, Zune, Sony PSP, Nokia Nseries phones, Sony S Series Walkmans, Playstation 3, various Windows / Mac media software etc) and not just restricted to Apple devices (or burning songs to a CD and re-importing them etc.) As a added bonus, the audio quality has been increased for these "DRM free" tracks with the bit rates being doubled from 128kbps to 256kbps.

So now the exclusive Erasure mixes from iTunes are available to a wider audience of Erasure fans, as will be the case for future digital only singles (when that day arrives.)
