Cyndi Lauper Announces The "True Colors" Tour

Watch Cyndi Lauper talks with "Today" host Meredith Vieira about the forthcoming "True Colors" concert tour, which will benefit the Human Rights Campaign. Then Cyndi performs her classic hit "True Colors".

"A lot of people were saying that when it came out (in 1986) they were teenagers and they were coming out,” says Lauper. “They were disowned by their family and their friends and their jobs got all messed up and they were totally alone, and suicidal, and then they heard "True Colors" and it made them feel hopeful."

Recently Cyndi had also been the guest of the Rosie O'Donnell show where she also performed "True Colors" and announced the forthcoming tour.

Andy Bell Interview Snippets

In a short news article about new Erasure album and tour Andy talks about his preparations for the tour:

"I feel good. I take care of myself and eat healthily. I'm going back to the gym to get ready for the tour. I can't go out partying all the time, but that has to do with age more than anything else," he says. "You know you can't be naughty, you have to be focused to perform all the time. I wish I could be as disciplined as Madonna, but I'm not that type of person."

Bell admits that since going public with his ailment in December 2004, "Sometimes I feel like, 'Oh, God. What have I done?' " He does, however, feel good about fans thanking him for being open about being HIV-positive and leading as full a life as ever — sentiments he hears very often.

For the first time ever, music legends and today's hottest artists take the stage for a historical musical event - Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, Debbie Harry, The Dresen Dolls, The Gossip and The Misshapes with host Margaret Cho join in celebration of the inaugural True Colors concert tour in support of the Human Rights Campaign.

This 15 city nationwide tour, presented by Logo, covers North America and Canada and kicks off Gay & Lesbian Pride Month on June 8th at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena. The concerts will feature five hours of nonstop music with other exciting special guests appearing on select dates throughout the tour including Rufus Wainright, Rosie O'Donnell and Indigo Girls with additional guests to be announced.

The Human Rights Campaign seeks to improve the lives of GLBT Americans by advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring families are treated equally under the law and increasing public support among all Americans through innovative advocacy, education and outreach programs. One dollar of every ticket sold will benefit the Human Rights Campaign.

The tour will also give Americans an opportunity to learn more about and become involved with the Matthew Shepherd Foundation and Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).

Tickets for select cities will go on sale beginning March 16th.

Cyndi Lauper / Erasure Duet

Cyndi Lauper has recorded a duet on a new Erasure song called "Early Bird". The song was recorded by Erasure during the recent recording sessions for their new album. When they decided to do the True Colors tour, it was suggested to Cyndi to do the duet.

According to my sources (well my email inbox!) Cyndi's vocals are superb and the track is a very r&b / Prince-y type of track from Vince and Andy - very different to everything else from the new album, and has been mixed by Gareth Jones.

I'll keep you updated on this intriguing new item!

"I Could Fall In Love With You" - Release Change And Artwork

It wouldn't be a new Erasure release without something being changed before it hits the shops...

Basically there is a production issue with the current video for "I Could Fall In Love With You" and it won't be possible to resolve it before the manufacturing deadline for the DVD single.

Therefore in order to prevent the single release date from being pushed back, the DVD Single is being replaced with a 7" vinyl picture disc edition (MUTE366).

The band have had an idea of an alternative video for "I Could Fall In Love With You" and they would like Erasure fans to be involved.

The idea is to feature a montage of "falling in love" moments, that tender kiss with a loved one...the warm embrace with a close friend...the gaze into your partners eyes that makes your heart beat faster before your lips finally meet... that kind of thing!

Option 1) I would *strongly* advise you to send in video clips via the post (burn the footage on a CD / DVD disc or send in cassette copies e.g. MiniDV). Videos encoded in MPEG, AVI, Quicktime, WMV - practically any format should be fine. (Postal address details below).

Option 2) Or you can use a web based file sharing service - upload the file and send me the link to be able to download it.

Option 3) If the video file is small (such as video footage taken via a mobile phone) then you can email the file via the email address below. Please note that some internet service providers do limit the size of attachments that you can email.

The last day that submissions will be accepted will be Monday 19th March.

3 1/2 weeks before its release and "I Could Fall In Love With You" has been added to the BBC Radio 2 'C' playlist.

BBC Radio 2 is the most listened to station in the UK with approx 13.27 million listeners, which is a 15.8% share of the radio audience.

"I Could Fall In Love With You" Picture Vinyl

According for some European online retailers new Erasure single "I Could Fall In Love With You" will also be released on 7" picture vinyl with the following catalogue number: 0094639000678. Expected release date is 13th April.

This will be the first Erasure commercial single issued on vinyl for the last 10 years (since 1997 US "In My Arms" 7").

"On The Road To Nashville" Review In Rolling Stone

Russian edition of "Rolling Stone" magazine (March 2007 issue) have published a review of "On The Road To Nashville" giving it 3 stars out of 5 (click on picture to enlarge).

New Vince Clarke Song (EIS News)

Vince Clarke has written a song called "Let's Get Together" for Boston MA based preteen pop girl group Girl Authority. It is from their forthcoming album "Road Trip" (out on 13th March) on Rounder Records.

The tune is apparently one of the first Vince ever composed, pre-dating even Depeche Mode days, though some of the original lyrics have been ammended so that they are more appropriate for the target young female audience.

Also as an homage to that period, Vince has re-played his signature keyboard riff from "Just Can't Get Enough," as part of the chorus. The album version of "Let's Get Together" was produced by Grammy-Award winning producer Scott Billington.

You may also watch a short documentary from 1981 in which Depeche Mode rehearsing "Let's Get Together" in the studio.

Online Erasure Fan "Virtual Street Team"

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, it is clear that there is a large amount of enthusiasm from Erasure fans in wishing to help promote Erasure.

Therefore I looking for a number of volunteers to help out in "spreading the word" of new the single and album online.

If you wish to help out then:

- You will need an Erasure Forum account.
- Send a "Private Message" to the following forum account expressing your interest: [online team]
- It would be useful if you could mention which other forums / blogs / online communities / web sites that you actively take part in.
- Please mention which country you are from.
- Please note that I'm looking for about 100 people to help out.
- If 100's of people wish to help out (which would be great - but would be difficult to manage) then I'll randomly choose 100.  If less than 100 people volunteer then this "Virtual Street Team" will probably be abandoned.

Andy And Vince Guest DJ's

To celebrate the launch of the MTV Networks channel "Logo" in Los Angeles, Andy and Vince will guest DJ at a Logo party in LA on the 8th March, and may even preview some new music for the audience.

As far as I know this is a private event, so I'm afraid that there are no tickets available, however it's an interesting news item!
