Hello

A weird one to write this week...

1. iTunes Celebrity Playlist
2. Vince Clarke 60 Second Interview (Metro)
3. Andy Bell Interview (Subba Cultcha)
4. 'Total Pop!' Competition (Pinkpaper.com)
5. 'Total Pop! Deluxe' Pre-Order Prize Draw Results
6. 'Total Pop!' Poster Competition
7. 'Total Pop!' - Further Reviews
8. Marlow 'InsideOutside'
9. Six Years Ago...

iTunes Celebrity Playlist

As well as offering 59 tracks worth of 'Total Pop! The First 40 Hits' for an incredible GBP 9.99, iTunes have also published Andy and Vince's comments on their top 11 songs. Check out iTunes to view their choices and comments.

Vince Clarke 60 Second Interview (Metro)

"Suddenly you find yourself at 48 and still going in the music business. I'm as shocked as I'm sure other people are. [Vince Clarke]"

The Metro ("Britain's first urban national newspaper") interviewed Vince Clarke for their regular '60 second interview' feature, which was published two days ago. Don't fret however, as the interview can be viewed online.

Andy Bell Interview (Subba Cultcha)

"I haven't seen Vince for a while, but we'll be meeting up at some point this year and we'll start writing some new material. [Andy Bell]"

The website Subba-Cultcha has recently interviewed Andy Bell and have just published the interview online.

'Total Pop!' Competition (Pinkpaper.com)

To celebrate the release of 'Total Pop!' The Pink Paper are running a competition with several Erasure goodies to give away, such as a signed vintage promotional photo or signed double CD.

'Total Pop! Deluxe' Pre-Order Prize Draw Results

As you may remember, everyone that pre-ordered the 'Total Pop' 4 disc box-set from The Erasure Shop (Lexer Music) was entered into a prize draw.

Six names have now been picked from the virtual hat, and the winners are: (drum roll please...)

- 1st Prize (Andy's Costume & 'Total Pop' Poster) -

- Frederique Cicou (Belgium)

- Runners Up (Signed CD & 'Total Pop' Poster) -

- Robert Smith (United States)
- Simon Wooldridge (United Kingdom)
- Dave Joerg (Germany)
- Bridoux Veronique (France)
- Kate Clark (United Kingdom)

Congratulations to you all.

'Total Pop!' Poster Competition

Haven't done a competition in ages - so here are ten 'Total Pop' posters to give away. For a chance to win one, just answer this question:

Q) What is the total running time of the 59 track digital download of 'Total Pop' from iTunes?

Send your answer, name and postal address to: greg@erasureinfo.com with the subject heading "ooh that's too easy". (You don't really have to write that.)

Closing date of competition is Thursday 5th March. Multiple entries will be deleted.

'Total Pop!' - Further Reviews

"They are one of the best pop groups ever. [Bad Robot]"

Further reviews of 'Total Pop! The First 40 Hits' have recently been published, from Bad Robot, Mojo, Uncut and The List. The Peterborough Evening Telegraph are also running a competition to win a signed copy of the album (not available on-line I'm afraid).

Marlow 'InsideOutside'

Just heard from The Erasure Shop (Lexer Music) that stock of the new Marlow album 'InsideOutside' will arrive Friday. The album contains eleven tracks and two remixes. The title track 'InsideOutside' was arranged and produced by Vince Clarke, who also provided a remix of the track Home.

If you hurry, you might still be able to take advantage of the pre-sale offer (the free download track, postcard & having the album signed.)

I also suggest you sign up to their mailing list (via the shop's frontpage) to be alerted of future special offers.

Six Years Ago...

Greg Hudson...almost to the day (3rd March 2003 to be exact) I wrote my first email newsletter to you all. Now six years and 292 newsletters later, I'll shortly be hanging up my keyboard and mouse and moving on. It's been an absolute pleasure to work for Andy and Vince and getting to know the wonderful people at Mute during this time and to have hopefully provided a decent service for you all.

Hasn't it been a totally crazy six years? I would never have dared hope that so many fantastic Erasure releases and live performances would happen in such a short amount of time - and of course there is much more to come in the future...

(You would have thought by now that I would have learnt how to get to the point in these newsletters! Ah well - too late now.)

So anyway, there is now is a vacancy for someone to run the Erasure / Yazoo / Andy Bell websites & newsletters, plus the companion services on MySpace, Facebook, iLike, YouTube & the forum.

Web design skills are essential and basic audio / video editing experience is useful. Decent knowledge of Erasure is also an requirement. Ideally you would also be based in London, though this is not compulsory. Applications, including CVs should be sent to:

Or email me them to me at: greg@erasureinfo.com

Cheers!

In addition, iTunes have all the tracks from the double album, the 3 additional tracks listed above, plus all the songs from disc 3 (the live CD from the box-set) available as part of their 'Total Pop' download - that's a total of 59 tracks for 9.99 (GBP) - which is extremely good value.

A reminder that 'Total Pop' is released by Rhino/Warner on the 7th April. 'Pop Remixed' will also be released on this date as a digital only release.

Hello

1. Pre-sale Ends Today (Fri 20th Feb)
2. 'A Little Respect' Video Clip (Going Live)
3. Andy Bell Interview & Competition (Remembertheeighties)
4. Andy Bell Interview (Real Radio 106-108FM)
5. Andy Bell Interview (Latest 7 Magazine)
6. Erasure 'Total Pop' Winning Weekend (Lincs FM)
7. Vince Clarke Remix - 'No You Girls' Franz Ferdinand
8. Andy Bell Interview (City Life)
9. Fan Mixes - Updated
10. Andy Bell Interview (Gaydar Radio)
11. Another Erasure Night (Sky High Radio)

"Total Pop! The First 40 Hits Deluxe" box-setA copy of the new Erasure box-set landed on my desk today, and it was the first time I had seen the actual finished product.

Up until now, it was still an intangible item - I've written about it, presented preview clips, seen images of the artwork and listened and viewed the test discs, but now I could finally pick it up and flick through it's pages and experience it how it is mean to be experienced.

And you know what? The level of care and attention that has gone into this release has blown me away - there are lots of little details that I've noticed for the first time which prompted an "oh that's cool" reaction in my head. As you can probably tell, I really like it. (This isn't meant as a sales pitch btw (seriously) it's a genuine reaction that I felt the need to share...)

Anyway - before I ramble on for too long, onto the first of two lasts...

Pre-sale Ends Today (Fri 20th Feb)

This is the final time I will write about the 'Total Pop' boxset pre-sale offer, as it concludes at the end of today (Friday 20th Feb).

If you wish to benefit from the exclusive bonus items (such as the free 4 track 'Pop! Treasure' MP3 download) then you're nearly out of time.

Note: The pre-sale is open to everyone worldwide - there are no geographical restrictions.

For further details visit totalerasure.com.

'A Little Respect' Video Clip (Going Live)

And this is the second of the two lasts - the final preview clip - feels a bit odd that.

This week it's a piece of video footage of Andy & Vince performing 'A Little Respect' (always a crowd pleaser that one) on the BBC early Saturday morning children's programme 'Going Live' way back in October 1988.

Erasure

As always, the clip can be viewed via a variety of different video streams (links below), as well as via Erasureinfo.com.

Video streams: QuickTime, Real Media and Windows Media.

This 'Going Live' performance is one of many that is featured on disc 4 (the DVD) of the 'Total Pop The First 40 Hits Deluxe' boxset.

Andy Bell Interview & Competition (Remembertheeighties)

Remembertheeighties.com have just published online an interview with Andy Bell and are running a competition where three winners will each receive a 'Total Pop Deluxe' box-set plus an set of autographed photographs.

Have a listen to the interview online here.

Andy Bell Interview (Latest 7 Magazine)

Rachel Pegg from the Brighton, Hove & Sussex magazine Latest 7 talks to Andy Bell about a life in music, the rebirth of electronica and Erasure's new album.

Some people, Andy says, think the band broke up in the 90s. In fact, they’ve released five albums since 2000 and are getting back together for more writing in the autumn, with a view to touring next year.

Erasure 'Total Pop' Winning Weekend (Lincs FM)

The UK radio station Lincs FM is giving you the chance to win a copy of Erasure's greatest hits "Total Pop" double CD - tune in this weekend for your chance to win.

In addition, John Marshall's interview with Andy Bell will air this Sunday at 11:30.

You can listen to Lincs FM live via the internet, DAB radio in North East Lincolnshire and on 102.2FM in Lincolnshire and Newark. Further tuning in details online.

Vince Clarke Remix - 'No You Girls' Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand have announced details of the release of a new single, "No You Girls", through Domino on 6th April 2009.

Franz Ferdinand

Taken from their recent album, "Tonight: Franz Ferdinand", the single will also feature remixes from the legendary Vince Clarke, Noze and John Disco.

The single was produced by Dan Carey and the band as part of the album sessions which took place at the band's own HQ in Govan, Glasgow and Carey's South London studio.

Andy Bell Interview (City Life)

Andy Bell was recently interviewed by Hannah Lucinda Smith for Manchester publication CityLife.

"Vince and I will be going back into the studio in the autumn – he’s got a set up in a log cabin in the States - so hopefully we'll get a new album out by 2010"

The full interview can be read online at citylife.co.uk.

Fan Mixes - Website Updated

Several fans mixes created by Andy Hagerty, Roland Pauk and Todd Bauerle have been added to the 'Treasure' section.

Andy Bell Interview (Gaydar Radio)

Andy Bell will be interviewed during the Simon Le Vans show on the afternoon of Thursday 26th February on Gaydar Radio.

Gaydar Radio is available on DAB multiplexes in London and Brighton, across the UK on Sky Digital CH 0158 and online.

Another Erasure Night (Sky High Radio)

The success of the previous 'Erasure Night' on internet radio station Sky High Radio has prompted them to do another one. Exact times are still to be confirmed, but it will occur one evening during the weekend of the 28th February.

Andy Bell On Pet Shop Boys

In one of the recent interviews Andy Bell have commented Pet Shop Boys getting the Outstanding Contribution award at Brits:

Andy BellQuestion: The Pet Shop Boys have just got this Outstanding Contribution To Music Award at the Brits. Do you feel like bursting onto the stage and shouting it should have been us!

Andy Bell: Well I'm surprised they didn't ask me to give it to them! 'Cause I really would have given it to them! [laughs]

No... I do like the Pet Shop Boys, and compared to Erasure they are the media darlings, and they always have been and I suppose they always will be. I always think we're kinda of the poor mans Pet Shop Boys really, as we're really working class and stuff and didn't come through the media you know. But I do admire their work. But I think we're just as valid.

Andy Bell Interview (Lincs FM)

John Marshall from the UK radio station Lincs FM recently interviewed Andy Bell, who is promoting the new Erasure release 'Total Pop! The First 40 Hits'.

John has kindly allowed the Erasure website to publish the complete unabridged interview, which you can read and listen to here.

Luke Turner from the rock music and pop culture website The Quietus talks to Andy Bell about his new life in the south coast town of Hastings.

Read the interview online at thequietus.com.

Andy Bell Interview (Clash Magazine)

Clash"'Wonky Pop' Esser vs 'Synth Pop' Andy Bell"

Andy Bell interviews (and is interviewed by) Esser in the March edition (#35) of the UK music magazine Clash, in their excellent 'Personality Clash' feature.

You can read a excerpt at clashmusic.com, with the full article available in the magazine, which is available at Tesco, WH Smith, HMV, Borders & all good independent newsagents and music retailers. Back issues are available for purchase online via clashmusic.com.

'Pop! Remixed' Review (Scottish Sunday Mail)

Mickey McMonagle from the Scottish Sunday Mail presents his weekly entertainment round-up with the Green Room and reviews 'Pop! Remixed'.

ERASURE - Pop Remixed *****

One of the definitive 80s bands return with a remix package, updating many of their synth-pop hits from the 80s and 90s. Songs like A Little Respect still sound as good.

Sensational stuff and an ideal introduction to the band. MM

You can watch the review online at sundaymail.co.uk.

'Total Pop! The First 40 Hits' Review (GT Magazine)

The latest edition of GT magazine has reviewed 'Total Pop! The First 40 Hits'.

"When is the Erasure revival going to happen? Hopefully this collection of their first 40 hits might be the catalyst.

Unlike their Electro brethren of yore (Depeche Mode, New Order), they don't appear to be held in such high esteem. Which is weird, because - as listening to this album proves - there are Pop nuggets to be mined in these here hills!

Who but the most hard-hearted can deny the joys of Always, Oh L'Amour and A Little Respect? And for the beat freaks, there's and extended EP of remixes worth investigating."

Have a great weekend!

General Music Industry News Of Interest

The Hit40UK singles radio chart (which is broadcast on 130 UK commercial stations) is now based exclusively on radio airplay and digital download sales, having dropped physical singles sales data earlier this month.

According to the BPI, physical singles represented 4.2% of the UK singles market in 2008.

The charts that are featured on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart Show are still comprised of physical and download sales, but not radio airplay.
