Interview with Maryanne Rarity (october 2004):

This interview was given by Maryanne Rarity from In_Vox exclusively to erasure.com.ru in October 2004.

In_Vox is a Greek band that recorded and released a duet with Andy Bell named "Will I Ever?" in summer 2004. Maryanne Rarity has kindly agreed to answer the erasure.com.ru questions.

   - First of all tell us about yourself and In_Vox. When did it all start and how many members are in the band?

In_Vox: Panagiotis Davelos and Maryanne Rarity   - In_Vox are myself (Maryanne Rarity) and Panagiotis Davelos who's really the brains behind the wheel. He's the one who does most of the writing and all of the arrangement and computer work. It's fair enough to say that we are both equally involved into the creation of what one hears. Our history goes back quite a few years ago and a lot of hard work has been put into our music. We started by calling ourselves "Sire" but we only made it as far as recording a few demo tapes. Panagiotis has always been working with music... either as an arranger, a session musician or a sound technician. Me, I got involved with a few recordings as a vocalist and did a few gigs as well. Eventually we listened to our inner voices and stuck together.

   - How would you describe your music?

   - How can one describe music? Everybody hears and feels music with a unique way. In general our style is so far classified as synth pop. On the other hand we use a lot of natural instruments like the guitar, the sax, the piano all performed by very talented artists. We do however take advantage of technology as well. Inspired by life, cliche as it may sound, we try to express those feelings in our music.

   - How was the idea to make a duet with Andy Bell born?

   - The song was written with Andy Bell in mind, we put it together and sent it to him to check it out. When he got back to us and agreed to participate we were exctatic.

   - Do you remember your first meeting with Andy Bell? Do you have you any particular memories?

   - We first met Andy Bell on a Greek island a while back during a holiday trip. When I first saw him I couldn't believe my own eyes. When we finally got to talk he was a really great guy, we hit it off and had a good time, never crossing my mind that we'll ever be singing together.

   - Tell us how you get in contact with Andy? Why Vince Clarke was not involved in the project?

   - When the song was born, the initial title was "Ode To Andy" (although he wasn't aware of it). When we contactedIn_Vox: Panagiotis Davelos and Maryanne Rarity him, he liked the song and we suggested to make it a duet, he liked the idea and we went along with it.

   - How was it, working with Andy in the studio? Can you describe the process?

   - In fact at that time, Andy and Vince were very busy recording Erasure's new album in New York but when he managed to go back home in London he put a few vocal tracks down on a track that we had already recorded. The final result was outstanding, and that was it!!

   - Do you like working with him?

   - He's very professional and a very gifted singer. I swear to hell I'd do it again.

   - Was the video for "Will I Ever?" shot? If yes, does Andy Bell appear in it?

   - Sorry, can't tell...

   - Are there any plans to release "Will I Ever?" internationally? Or it will stay only a Greek release?

   - There appears to be enough interest to the point where this release will make it to the international market. I would be a liar if I said we're not looking forward to it.

   - What kind of music do you like to listen by yourself?

   - Rock, jazz, pop, funk. I listen to the radio all day.

In_Vox: Maryanne Rarity and Panagiotis Davelos   - What do you think about the present and the future of dance music?

   - As long as people like to have fun there will always be dance music.

   - What are your plans about an album?

   - There are already some songs finished and we are still throwing around some cool ideas for our debut album as we speak.

   - ...and about a tour? Will we get a chance to see you live?

   - Our intentions are to tour as much as possible because we love to play more than anything and if things go the way we are planning, you'll be seeing us soon...

   - Is there anything you want to say to all Erasure fans?

   - This song was a lotta fun for us and a dream come true. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

   - Thank you for your time!

   - Thanks you Grigory for taking the time to chat with us, hope to hear from U soon.
